Dry July

The online programme is made up of weekly, monthly and bi-monthly classes, focussing on core themes – skin, hair, body and mind. You can join from wherever you are and will be shown tools and tips to help people feel stronger and face cancer with confidence. The virtual sessions usually have six to ten people. You are welcome to ask questions and the sessions also provide a way to connect with others going through a similar experience. Held via a link to a live Zoom session, you may have your camera off if you prefer. You are welcome to attend as many classes as you wish – during and after treatment.

Online class topics

Our classes cover a variety of different topics. You are welcome to join us as needed before, during and after your treatment, so that you can feel stronger and face cancer with confidence. You can sign up and join as many online video classes as you like. We regularly add new classes, and new class times, so please check back for the latest schedule.

I didn't realise how much it was going to hit me. I didn’t like looking in the mirror, I had no eyebrows and hair like a baby chimpanzee. I did the online class to see if I could go out in public. You get a sense of community doing it online. It was really nice having other women who understood what I was going through.

Feel Better classes are free for anyone with any cancer at any stage from diagnosis to post-treatment.

plus minus How long does the online Feel Better class take?

Each class is one hour, and will start promptly on time as there are so many online classes.

plus minus I have never used online video before, is it easy?

Yes it is simple. Once you have registered, you will be emailed instructions and a link on how to join the video class, and you can test and practice in advance.

plus minus What happens if I experience technical difficulties on the call?

The class facilitator should be able to help with most issues. It is recommended that you join a test Zoom meeting to familiarise yourself with the Zoom software and test your video, microphone and speakers, before joining the online class. You can join a test Zoom meeting by clicking on this link and following the instructions: https://zoom.us/test

plus minus I live in a rural area and I don’t have access to a reliable internet connection. Can I still access a class using live online video?

We are aware connectivity may be affected in certain areas, but Zoom meetings can be run across New Zealand. To improve the internet connection, we recommend being close to your wifi router, use an internet cable if you have one, and ensure you other members of your household are not over using the internet at the same time (e.g. streaming videos).

plus minus I don’t have the Zoom software application downloaded on my computer or tablet?

This is not a problem. When you open the link in your confirmation email for the first time, the Zoom application software will download automatically. Just follow the simple instructions on screen. We suggest you do this in advance of the meeting.

plus minus I have registered for a class but not received a confirmation email?

You should receive a confirmation email very shortly after registering on our website. If you cannot find in your in-box, please check your junk or spam folder. If you locate our email in a junk folder, then we recommend you add our email address to your contacts or safe senders list so you can receive future notifications direct into your inbox.
If you still cannot find your confirmation email, then please call our helpline on 0800 865 432 or email us at info@lgfb.co.nz.

plus minus How do I change or cancel my class?

Not a problem. Please call our helpline on 0800 865 432 or email us at info@lgfb.co.nz and we will be happy to help.

plus minus Can I turn my camera off as I am not feeling my best?

It is nice for the facilitator and participants to see each other, to build a connection. However we understand you may prefer not to be seen and this is fine. You can turn off your video camera at the start of the class, or any time during the class. There is an icon at the bottom of your screen to do this, or you can ask the facilitator.
