Community classes

Feel Better signature skincare and make-up classes are held in centres throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, and are free for anyone with any cancer at any stage. They provide an opportunity to do something practical and to connect with others who may be experiencing something similar, away from the world of cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The two-hour sessions include simple, easy-to-follow make-up techniques and provide a feel-better moment in a session that is about you the person, not a patient. You will receive a Feel Better Confidence Kit made up of donated skincare and cosmetics specifically selected to best match your skin tone, based on the information in your registration form.

What the class covers

Focused on skincare and makeup, our trained facilitator provides step-by-step techniques and advice aimed at helping you deal with navigating the impact of cancer and help you feel like you again.

The Feel Better session is about having fun in an informal, relaxed and informative environment and is a chance to meet others in a similar situation.

I remember thinking, ‘no one can make me look good after going through this’. They did make me look good and feel better. When I walked out smiling I saw my husband smiling, and my kids smiling. I understood what those words mean – Look Good Feel Better – and how they can change your life.

Community class FAQs

plus minus How can I attend a community class?

Feel Better classes are for anyone with any stage at any stage – from diagnosis to post-treatment. There are regular women’s classes in 40+ centres in New Zealand, as well as bi-monthly teens sessions. We are looking to introduce sessions for men, in local communities in the near future.

plus minus Can a make-up class really change how someone feels?

Finding out you have cancer can be daunting and life-changing. The added stress of the physical side effects of treatment can be hard to cope with. This can impact self-esteem and confidence at a time when a positive attitude is very important. The emphasis in all our classes is to relax and have fun. It’s a chance to do something practical, proactive and positive and to meet people in a similar situation. Many participants say that Look Good Feel Better helped them regain a sense of control and normality at a time when diagnosis and treatment make everything feel overwhelming.

plus minus How long does the Feel Better Class take?

Our signature skincare and make-up sessions are two hours. See the class schedule for exact timings for each location.

plus minus What will I learn by going to a class that I can’t learn at home online.?

Which is better – a community class or online session – is about personal preference, and what stage of treatment. The programme composition is the same in both, however some people prefer to be with others going through a similar journey, while some prefer to be at home is they are feeling more vulnerable. Your safety and comfort is a priority, so we ask that anyone attending a community session has no symptoms of a cold or virus

plus minus I have never used make up, will I be expected to know what to do?

The sessions provide skincare tips as well as make-up advice. Our class facilitator will guide you through every step, and will demonstrate some basic techniques intended to give you a boost.
