GENERAL

How much does it cost to attend a Look Good Feel Better class?
Our entire programme is free to anyone with any cancer, at any stage – from diagnosis to thrival. There is no cost to attend any class.

Do I need to be referred to be able to join a class?
No you can register yourself online click here or phone us on 0800 865 432.

How do I change or cancel my class?
It is easy to do, simply call 0800 865 432 or email us at info@lgfb.co.nz and we will be happy to help.

I haven’t lost my hair, can I still attend a class?
Absolutely. Not everyone experiences hair loss with treatment.

Do I need to be going through treatment to attend?
You do not need to be in active treatment to attend. Look Good Feel Better is for anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis, at any stage.

Do I need to wait until I have finished treatment?
After treatment, you can attend and access at a time to suit you.

Can l take part in more than one session?
Yes, you can attend as many as you need – however we can offer only one Confidence Kit per person per year to ensure we can provide one for everybody. So please use your donated skincare and makeup confidence kit for the classes – either in the community or online. Note too, that we also offer the on-demand series as a refresher.

I have registered for a class but not received a confirmation email?
You should receive a confirmation email very soon after registering through the website. If you cannot find it in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folder. (If you find it in junk/spam, we recommend you add our email address to your contacts or safe senders list so you can receive future notifications direct into your inbox.)

How is Look Good Feel Better funded?
Look Good Feel Better is a registered charity. It does not receive government funding so we are incredibly grateful for our partners and brands who generously donate products, professional support, and help with fundraising. A large portion of our income comes from individual’s donations, and fundraising from companies, community groups and associations. A small portion of funding is received through trusts and grants within New Zealand. Look Good Feel Better is also a recipient charity of Dry July and Feel Better Month, a Farmers campaign in July.

How can I support/help Look Good Feel Better?
Most importantly, you can let people know about Look Good Feel Better and our services. We do not want to be a best kept secret, we want anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer – at any stage of that journey – know they can attend a free class.

Is Look Good Feel Better only for people with breast cancer?
We welcome anyone with any cancer.

Can I attend more than one session?
You are welcome to attend as many sessions as you need. However, we can provide only one Confidence Kit, for the signature Skincare and Make-up Class, per year to ensure we can provide one everyone who needs one.

Do you offer services for males?
We have regular online classes for men, to help- with skin, hair, body and mind. The one-hour
session includes a guest speaker. We also offer a range of online wellbeing sessions that are relevant
to all, including mindfulness, gentle Pilates and chair yoga, along with podcasts and expert Q&As.

Do you offer services for youths?
We hold Look Good Feel Better community classes specifically for youths from 13 years. Please refer to our schedule. We are also planning online sessions in the near future, please contact us on 0800 865 432, or email info@lgfb.co.nz for details. Much of our online on-demand programme may be of help too – including how-to videos, and wellbeing topics including mindfulness.

Are you looking for volunteers?
We are fortunate to currently have enough people volunteering at our community classes. However the best thing you can do is tell anyone you know with who has had a cancer diagnosis about our free services. Please follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram where will call for volunteers when applications are open.

COMMUNITY CLASSES

Can I bring a support person, friend or whanau member with me to a community class?
Absolutely, they are very welcome to accompany you and watch the experience.

How long is a community class?
The community class takes approximately two hours. Remember to bring a tote bag to take home your Confidence Kit.

What happens at a community class?
This two-hour signature skincare and make-up session that takes you through a range of self-care techniques including enhanced hygiene during treatment, skincare and sun care, make-up tips such as drawing on or filling in sparse eyebrows and wellbeing tips. If time allows, there may be a section on headwear and wig care, however you do not need to have lost your hair to attend a class. If you have lost your hair, you may find our on-demand videos helpful or join our online wig class. When you register for a community class you will be asked a little about your complexion, eye and natural hair colour to help select a range of cosmetics and skincare, that has been generously donated by our partners.

What do I need to take to a community class?
We provide all you will need to attend the class, including hand sanitiser. You may like to take a tote carry bag to take home your Confidence Kit.

What if I am unable to attend a session unexpectedly?
We totally understand that you may not be feeling well, and you may wish to reschedule to another session through the website. Alternatively please call us on 0800 865432.

Will I need to be vaccinated for COVID/have had a COVID booster to attend a class?
You are not required to be vaccinated, however if you have tested positive for Covid, or have any symptoms, we ask that you rebook for when you are either testing positive or are symptom-free.

I am concerned about COVID and/or any other health issues as I am immune-compromised. Will I be safe attending a class?
Your safety is paramount. All our facilitators and volunteers are required to test negative, have no symptoms of a cold or COVID, and be feeling well prior to a class. We respectfully also ask our participants to re-schedule if they are not feeling well.
Since the pandemic we have revised the programme to minimise skin-on-skin contact.
If you would like the facilitator and volunteers to wear gloves, please let them know.

ONLINE SESSION

Can a friend or whānau member be part of an online session?
Yes you are welcome bring a support person to the class.

Do I have to have my camera on, if I attend an online session?
No, you can choose to have your camera off if you feel more comfortable.

Can a friend/family member attend an online session?
Absolutely, you are welcome to invite someone to support you. (Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to provide your guest with a Confidence Kit for our online Signature Skincare and Make-up Class.)

What happens at an online expert Q&A?
These hour-long sessions are held via a Zoom link so you can watch from where you feel comfortable. Once you register, you will be sent a link to join the class. You are welcome to have your camera turned off if you prefer, and we encourage you to ask questions.

What happens at an online class?
The one-hour session via zoom is run by a trained facilitator. It is an interactive session so you can ask questions and chat with other participants. For some sessions you will be sent a product pack to use in the session. These sessions will provide you with helpful tips and advice on the session topic. When you register for a skin care/makeup session you will be asked a little about your complexion, eye and natural hair colour to help select a range of cosmetics and skincare, that has been generously donated by our partners.

WIGS

Where can I donate my real hair to make into wigs?
Freedom Wigs in Dunedin purchases or makes a charity donation in return for high-quality hair to make into wigs. To find out more please visit their website www.freedomwigs.com or phone 03 477 7575.

Can I donate my wig to Look Good Feel Better?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept wigs for hygiene reasons. Some local charities and hospices may be able to take them.

What help can I get to cover the cost of wigs or headwear?
Te Whatu Ora provides a subsidy for adults with temporary hair loss. This could cover the cost of a wig, headwear such as hats or turbans, eyebrow wigs and associated hair products. This could cover the cost of scarves, hats, turbans or a wig. The subsidy is $408.88 (incl GST) over a one-year period.
