Kellee Peita-Read’s life was turned upside down by a shock cancer diagnosis, just after a routine mammogram. The vibrant woman she once was became a person navigating chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and fatigue, with her body and emotions forever changed.
“Cancer hit like a massive pause button, turning everything upside down,” Kellee reflects. “The fear and loss of control were overwhelming, but I didn’t want that sadness to define my journey.”
Instead, Kellee embraced the challenge, finding strength and empowerment in the process. “I had to reinvent myself. How do I still feel good and look good? I discovered my own power, something I’d never fully appreciated before.”
Look Good Feel Better played a crucial part in her journey, offering free, practical wellbeing sessions that uplifted her spirits. Kellee and her mother attended a skincare and makeup session, where they enjoyed a moment of joy amid the chaos of cancer. “It was so lovely to just be with people who get it. You don’t even need to speak. That connection is everything.”
Even small moments like a family “cutting ceremony” helped her navigate her new reality, with her nephew shaving his mullet to support her as she lost her hair.
Throughout her treatment, Kellee made a point to keep some normalcy in her life, even working up to her sixth round of chemo. Look Good Feel Better’s online resources gave her the tools to manage her skin, try new things like scarves, and even enjoy exercise classes. “The tips gave me control in a situation where I felt so out of control.”
Kellee has emerged from her battle with newfound strength, grateful for the support of Look Good Feel Better. “It picks you up, gives you a boost, and helps you keep moving forward. I’m forever grateful.”
